Do Energy Drinks Make You Drunk Faster?

Energy drinks can make get you drunk faster when mixed with spirits.

According to an experiment on the effects of mixing alcoholic drinks and energy drinks, people who consume the mixture felt more intoxicated.

Bear in mind there are various studies that warn people about mixing energy drinks and alcohol due to intoxication which your body may not be able to handle. But intoxication may only occur when you know that there is an added energy drink to your alcoholic beverage.

Personally, it wouldn’t hurt to try a serving of Extra Joss and a spirit of your choice. Just don’t overindulge! Still, I do not encourage you to mix energy drinks and alcohol!

Do Energy Drinks Make Alcohol Stronger?

The short answer is yes!

When alcohol and energy drinks are mixed, it masks the depressant effect of alcohol which makes you more alert than usual. As a result, you’ll keep wanting more alcohol which can eventually lead to intoxication.

Symptoms of intoxication due to mixing energy drinks and alcohol include palpitations, irregular heart rhythm, sleep problems, and feeling agitated.

Why mixing caffeine and alcohol is bad?

Does Energy Drinks and Alcohol Kill You?

From a health perspective, the mixture of alcohol and energy drinks can be fatal.

As I keep saying, alcohol is a depressant while energy drinks are stimulants and the combination of these two can be lethal.

Caffeine, a primary component of energy drink powders and also a stimulant, can increase respiratory rate, boost alertness, and reduce fatigue. On the other hand, alcohol, a depressant, slows brain function, decreases heart rate and blood pressure, dilates the blood vessels, and may also cause a blackout.

So, after the stimulant effect wears off, the depressant effects stay which can induce vomiting while asleep or respiratory depression occurs.

Side Effects Of Energy Drink Powders

Energy drink powders are not bad. However, when consumed excessively or mixed with alcohol, it can lead to health symptoms such as:

  • increased blood pressure
  • irregular heart rhythms
  • sleep disturbance
  • weight gain
  • tooth decay
  • mental health problems
  • diabetes
  • kidney damage
  • substance abuse

Can Energy Drinks Get You High?

Energy drinks can definitely get you high when consumed excessively.

However, in the case of energy drink powders, it’s unlikely you’ll get high due to their lower caffeine concentration. An average serving of an energy mix contains up to 150 mg of caffeine which is considered low.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suggests limiting your caffeine intake to no more than 400 mg per day to avoid the nasty side effects of caffeine.

I strongly suggest consuming only a serving of energy mix once in a while. There are other ways to get caffeine naturally anyway which reduces the risk of developing caffeine toxicity.

Why Shouldn’t You Mix Red Bull With Alcohol?

Red Bull gives you wings!

Red Bull makes your heart beat faster and mixing it with alcohol makes the organ work harder. As a result, you’ll get an abnormal heart rhythm which can potentially develop into a heart attack.

In addition, if you’re consistently mixing Red Bull and alcohol, you’re forcing your blood pressure to go up, which increases the risk of stroke and heart attack. Plus, long-term consumption can affect kidneys and liver health too.

So, if you are already suffering from irregular heart rhythm or palpitations, it’s best to not drink Red Bull with alcohol.

Does Red Bull and Vodka Get You More Drunk?

Red Bull and vodka can get you more drunk.

This combination can increase the capacity to feel intoxicated. When you drink alcohol alone, you can easily control how much you can drink and when you drink it with an energy drink, you won’t feel the depressant effect of alcohol.

As a result, you’ll keep wanting more serving which can make you drunk quickly without realizing it.

In Conclusion

For your safety, you shouldn’t mix energy drinks and alcohol.

For example, the combination of vodka and Red Bull can make you drunk pretty quickly. Another reason why it’s forbidden to mix energy drinks and alcohol is that it induces stroke and heart attack.

So, no matter how fun the energy drink + alcohol craze is, it is in your best interest not to go down that road to avoid jeopardizing your health and wellbeing.
